Son of DavidBowman, Jefferson tp. On the 12th May, 1864, Surgeon Boydwas detailed by General Thomas to duty inHospital No. 1, at Chattanooga, where he re-mained until March 23d, 1865, when he re-signed on account of declining health causedby long and arduous duties with the sick andwounded. At piesent of the firm of Boyd &Lawrence, practicing physicians, in Dublin Boyd, William A. enlisted in Co. C, 84thBeg Ind Vol Inf, for three years. September,1862. Was commissioned as captain at theorganization of his company, and was withthe regiment in Western Virginia and East-ern Kentucky, participating in all its battles.until May 9th, 1864, when he was in com-mand of six companies of skirmishers atRocky Face, Georgia, and was wounded by ashot through both thighs ; the left one wasamputated, but his life could not be savedHe died in hospital at Chattanooga July 11.1864, leaving a wife and two children resid-ing at present in Centerville.
