United States Department of the Interior Office of the National Parks Buildings and Reservations Washington November 2, 1933. Superintendent J. R. McConaghie, Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Dear Mr. McConaghie: I have received your letter of October 30. Inclosed [sic] is a copy of Assistant Secretary Chapman’s letter to Mrs. Lewis Sewall, Chairman of Gettysburg Monument Committee. You should carry out the instructions given in our letter of October 26 immediately, writing to Mr. Chapman through this Office. The tentative program has been noted. It seems a bit strange that the matter should be handled in this way. It is suggested that you get in touch with Mrs. Sewall at once and properly authenticate the program, inasmuch as the Department of the Interior through its Assistant Secretary is planning to be present and take part. Please keep this Office informed of all arrangements. Also write for Mr. Chapman’s information with regards to the Alabama Monument, its design, location and sponsors. Very truly yours, Arno B. Cammerer Director I am hoping to be able to be this too, possibly arriving the evening before the functions [?] has commenced
