Description

Seen here is a model-based reconstruction of life in the ancient ocean during the Mississippian. This is a public exhibit at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana.


This shark-like organism is Stethacanthus, a holocephalian fossil fish. It is remarkable for having an oddly-shaped dorsal fin. Stethacanthus existed in the Devonian and Mississippian.
