Summary

[edit]
Description

Saturn's moon Dione was discovered by Jean-Dominique Cassini in 1684. Recent measurements by UCL's instrument on the spacecraft which bears Cassini's name, show Dione's shadow cast in the electrons seen near this icy moon. The colours in the upper part of the image show electron intensities, to scale with Dione's image in the lower part. Behind Dione itself, we see Saturn's rings and their own shadow in sunlight on Saturn itself.
