Dinan (Côtes-d'Armor) Château de Dinan. Le Donjon. Le château de Dinan est un ensemble forteresse constitué de l'enceinte, du Donjon ducal, de la porte du Guichet et de la tour de Coëtquen. Ces éléments ont été rassemblés au XVIe siècle par le duc de Mercoeur. On doit la construction du donjon (ou tour de la Duchesse Anne) au duc de Bretagne Jean IV le Vaillant*, à la fin du XIVe siècle. La seigneurie de Dinan étant devenue une châtellenie ducale depuis la fin du XIIIe siècle (et jusqu'au rattachement au royaume de France en 1532). Oeuvre de l'architecte Estienne le Thur, le Donjon est formé de deux tours rondes accolées. Plus qu'un élément de défense, le Donjon est une demeure princière. L'imposante porte du Guichet date du XIIIe siècle. Elle est encadrée par des murs à l'intérieur desquels des couloirs permettent l'accès à des meurtrières. Au XVIe siècle, la tour de Coëtquen, tour d'artillerie édifiée au XVe siècle, a été reliée au Donjon par un couloir, le "souterrain Mercoeur", ce qui obligea à murer la porte du Guichet. Le château sera délaissé au XVIIe siècle. Au XVIIIe siècle, il servira de logement aux marins hollandais et anglais et au XIXe siècle il deviendra prison. La ville rachètera le château au début du XXe siècle.
