Summary

[edit]
Description
English: From the source, This photograph of a 'ruined linga temple' of the Chandella period was taken by Joseph David Beglar c.1871-72 and is part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections (Indian Museum Series). Beglar wrote in his report of a tour of Bundelkhand and Malwa in 1871-72. , "The Hindu temple is in ruins, a few of the pillars alone standing in situ.." The temple is Shivaite and it still housed a linga when Beglar visited. Built to a cross design, the temple has no tower and its roof is built in a unusual manner. Usually, Indian temples are constructed in a typical corbelled style forming a pyramid shape. Instead the roof of this temple is flat, fashioned by laying stones across architraves held up by pillars. This can clearly be seen in this photograph.
