English: Digby's Dell Pound Wood. The picture shows Digbys Dell in Pound Wood Nature Reserve, Daws Heath, Essex. The reserve is owned by Essex Wildlife Trust http://www.essexwt.org.uk/. Digbys Dell is the only permanently standing water in the wood so it is an important wildlife resource. Local lore has it that the pond is actually a bomb crater. The spot is provided with a seat to the memory of Marjorie Digby, she was the wife of Mr Michael Digby who helped ensure that the sale of Pound Wood from the Church Commissioners to the Essex Wildlife Trust went smoothly. for more info on the wood see http://www.poundwood.org.uk/Trail/Trail.htm. |
