English: This diagram depicts the difference of distribution of macro-plankton in the ocean between the day and the night. On this diagram, we can see that macro-plankton takes refuge in the deep during the day (between 200m and 400m), because of the attacks of surface predators. During the night, macro-plankton goes up to the surface (between 0 and 100m) in order to feed about plankton. This diagram drew his inspiration from two articles : Pakhomov, E. A., Perissinotto, R., McQuaid, C. D., Comparative structure of the macro-zooplankton / micronekton communities of the Subtropical and Antarctic Polar Fronts. Marine Ecology Progress Series, 111, 155-169, 1994. Perissinotto, R., McQuaid, C.D., Land-based predator impact on vertically migrating zooplankton and micronekton advected to a Southern Ocean archipelago. Marine Ecology Progress Series, 80, 15-27, 1992. Macro-plankton has been symbolized by the shapes of lanternfishs (myctophidae) and pelagic shrimps. Plankton has been symbolized by green dots. The area, demarcated by two horizontal red lines, corresponds to the depth where the majority of the dives of the females of the subantarctic fur seals used to happen. This diagram has been made under Open Office Calc software, the shapes of lantern fishes, pelagic shrimps and stars has been drawn under Gimp software.
Cette figure est inspirée des deux articles suivant : Pakhomov, E. |
