Gymnodiniaceae. (Schutt. 3 stellen sie den Peridiniaceae nahe, der Mangel eines Panzers nähert sie den Yolvocaceae. Einzelne Entwickelungsstadien (Pyrocystis) erinnern an Desmidiaceae. Einige Vertreter der Familie dürften auch in die animalische Reihe der Lebewesen hinüberleiten, während noch andere vielleicht nur unerkannte Sporenstadien anderer Familien, namentlich von Peridiniaceae, sind. Einteilung der Familie. A. Zelle mit zusammenhängender Cellolosemembran I. Pyrocysteae. a. Zelle mit dünnem, der Membran anliegendem Plasmaschlauch und groÃem Saftraum, nur zeitweilig Gymnodinienform annehmend 1. Pyrocystis. B. Zelle nackt oder in gallertartiger Hülle von Gymnodinienform, ohne groÃen Saftraum II. Gymnodinieae. a. Die Querfurche macht nur einen halben Schraubenumgang ... 2. Heinidinium. b. Die Querfurche macht einen ganzen Schraubenumgang oder mehr. a. Stigma fehlend oder klein, ohne groÃe Linse. I. Querfurche fast kreisförmig. t. Querfurche so weit nach vorn verschoben, dass der Vorderkörper kopfförmig wird 3. Amphidinium. 2. Querfurche der Mitte genähert . 4. Gymnodinium. II. Querfurche eine sehr stark steigende Schraube. â 1. Querfurche macht wenig mehr als einen Schraubenumgang. Längsfurche fast gerade 5. Spirodinium. 2. Querfurche macht \l o oder mehr Schraubenumgang. Längsfurche stark schraubig gedreht 6. Cochlodinium. Ã. Stigma blasenartig, groÃ, mit groÃer Linse 7. Pouchetia.
