228 Capparidaceae. (Pax.) 13. Crataeva L. (O/Ztr;/« Thouars). Bl. bisweilen durch Abort eingeschlechtlich. Kelch abfallend. Blb. lang benagelt. Androphor kurz säulentürmig, an seiner Spitze die 8—50 Stb. tragend, am Grunde in nach innen gekrümmte Schuppen auswachsend. Gynophor lang, Frkn. I- oder fast Sfächerig, die zahlreichen Sa. in 4 oder mehr Reihen an 2 Placenteu. N. sitzend. — Kahle Sträucher oder Bäume mit gedreiten B. und doldentraubigen, ansehnli-chen Bl. und großen Beeren. (Vergl. Fig. 136 K und L und Fig. 137.) Etwa lO Arten in den Tropen beider Hemisphären. Cr. reUgiosa Forst, (Fig. 137) im tropischen Afrika verbreitet, auf den Gesellschaftsinseln; zwei eigentümliche Arten auf Ma- dagaskar, darunter Cr. excelsa Bojer. Cr. Tapia L. im tropischen Amerika. Die pomme- ranzenähnlichen Fr. derselben (»Tapia« der Brasilianer) sind von süßlichem Geschmack, aber widerlichem, lauchartigem Geruch, daher der Baum auch als »Päo d'alho« bezeichnet wird. Die Rinde des Baumes findet gegen das Fieber Verwendung. 14. Euadenia Oliv. Kelchb. lanzettlich, Blb. linealisch spalelförmig, lang genagelt. Stb. 5—7. Staminodien 2 oder fehlend. Discus in eine linealische, an der Spitze mit ö Drüsen versehene oder Skerbige, flache oder rinnige Schuppe ausgehend. Gynophor verlängert. — Kahle Slräucher mit gedreiten B. und terminalen Blütentrauben. 2 Arten, E. trifoliata Oliv, mit 2fächerigem Frkn. von Oberguinea, und E. Kirim Oliv, von Mosambique mit 1 fächerigem Frkn.
