Illustriertes Wochenblatt für den gesamten Gartenbau. Jahrgang III. lO. September 1899. No. 50. Nachdruck und Nachbildung ans dem Inhalt dieser Zeitschrift wird strafrechtlich verfolgt. Neue Pflanzen. Neue Haemanthus-Züchtungen. \'om Herausgeber. (Hierzu eine Abbildung.) Z-ur Familie der Amaryllideeu, die uns so viele der herrlichsten Blütenpflanzen liefert, gehören auch die bisher noch wenig gewürdigten, doldenblütigen Haeinanthtis, zu deutsch „Blutblumen"; sie sind in etwa 50—60 Arten in Afrika, vor- zugsweise am Kap, in einzelnen Arten auch bis zum äqua- torialen Afrika heimisch. H. all'ißos, eine unverwüstliche. bescheidene Art, ist eine immergrüne Zwiebelpflanze, die übrigen sind aber fast ausnahmslos Zwiebelgewächse, die eine ausgesprochene Ruhezeit durchzumachen haben. In den letzten Jahren sind die Haeinanthiis durch einige neue Einführungen bekannter geworden; immerhin fehlen sie noch in den meisten Kulturen, was auch zum Teil in dem Umstände seinen Grund haben mag, dafs sie vorzugsweise im Frühling und Sommer blühen. Man sollte aber trotzdem diesen Pflanzen, namentlich den herrlich blühenden, grofs- doldigen Arten, deren Blütendolden weithin leuchtende rote
