Two angels bear a shield to Olympus. In van Loo's preliminary oil sketch for the painting, the shield was a cartouche with a crown the initials FR - Fridericus Rex. The king had his name covered with a drape, which was seen by contemporaries as indicative of his modesty.

Zwei Engel tragen ein Schild in den Olymp. In van Loos vorläufiger Ölskizze standen eine Krone und die Initialen FR - Fridericus Rex - auf der Kartusche. Friedrich ließ wohl seinen Namen durch das grüne Tuch abdecken, was schon von Zeitgenossen als Anzeichen seiner Bescheidenheit ausgelegt wurde.
