Description
Deutsch: Die Blütezeit des Mittelalters, 1829
English: The Heyday of the Middle Ages; The large-format painting is an idealizing pasticcio of old Italian architecture from different regions, namely the Upper Town in the facade of S. Rufino in Assisi and the Prince's Palace of Urbino; in the lower town are the Fontana Maggiore by Giovanni and Nicola Pisani and to the left of it the town hall of Perugia. The main gate resembles the Castel Nuovo in Naples and the aqueduct in the right background refers to Spoleto, whose geographical situation on the mountain is also the basis for the overall layout of the city depicted.
