Description
English:
According to a local resident's account, the Dióliget part of the settlement arose in such a way that due to the high groundwater level – because the village was built on the floodplain of Ipoly – it was not possible to build cellars for houses along the main road, so they started to build cellars further away for storing vegetables, as a kind of cold storage. In the 19th century some of it may have been used by some viticulture or winemaking. After World War II and from the 1990s, the cellars, which are probably 100-120 years old, were transformed. By the 2020s, the buildings are being used as holiday resorts alongside some permanent residents. Dióliget cellars area/Pincékalja neighbourhood, Ipolytölgyes, Pest County, Hungary.
