Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dhumbarahi temple located in Dhumbarahi of Kathmandu. This is one of the four barahis of the valley. This temple is located at the base of a very large hindu holy tree PIPAL. In this temple, there is a statue of a human being with a body and a head with teeth coming out. Earlier it was also called Bhumi Barah and Dharani Barah. This statue is considered to be one of the finest statues, half human and half animal. This idol is considered to be of special importance among the Vaishnavite art sculptures. Since the Baraha Jatra is mentioned in the records of King Narendradev's Anantalingeshwar, it is believed to have been established long before the time of King Narendradev. According to the Gopal Raj genealogy, it is said to have been established by King Bhumigupta of the Licchavi period. In this temple, there is an arrangement for daily worship by the priests. Devotees throng this temple on Saturday, the great festival of Nepalis, Vijaya Dashami. Lord Varaha is considered by the indigenous tribes as their deity. The statue of Barah is very artistic and attractive. The temple site is also located in a very quiet place.
