documents are generally free onopen library days (Saturdays excepted). It may also bestated that there is a good collection of modern referenceworks on ecclesiastical history and topography. S. W. Kershaw, f.s.a. 108. William Bradridge.—Can any reader of DevonNotes and Queries tell me how many children William Brad-bridge or Bradridge, Bishop of Exeter (1571-8) had? C.K.B. 109. Heraldry at Ottery.—I have received informationand a sketch of a shield in the house of Mr. Rennell Coleridgeat Ottery, on a chimney piece ; it is very much worn, and nottinctured; it reads, quarterly 1 and 4, ... a chevron . . .between three mullets . . . within a bordure . . . charged withsixteen roundles ... 2 and 3, . . . three chevrons ... Ithought possibly the bordure might indicate a branch of someold family ; therefore if any correspondent could give a list ofany of the families who may have resided in the house or itsvicinity, or could verify the arms, it would be helping thecause of heraldry. Devon Notes and Queries. 193 no. Fragment of Monumental Brass found atLuppit.—When visiting Luppit Church last autumn, theVicar (the Revd. W. T. Perrott) shewed me the fragmentof a brass that was found some little time ago in a hedgebank near the church, of which he kindly allowed me totake a rubbing. The metal, which is irregularly broken, measures14 inches by nJ, and shews the upper part of a femalefigure in the costume of the 15th century. The head andshoulders are gone, the hands clasped in prayer against thewaist of the dress, round which is fastened a knotted girdle.A cloak thrown over the shoulders is ornamented with twoshields of arms. On the dexter side appear the sixmullets of Bonville; on the sinister the shield is quarterly, shewing a fess between 3 crescents quartering Bonville. In Carews Scroll of Arms (No. 633) I find gules betweena fess argent 3 crescents argent with the name Hoieways,Holways, also written Holway. This coat is quoted asbeing quartered by Cary of Clovel
