Die Zither entstand um 1800 aus dem Scheitholt, einem Instrument der Volksmusik, des schon im 16. Jahrhundert nachweisbar ist. Die Salzburger Zither hat nur eine Ausbuchtung, Sie ist durchgängig mit Metallsaiten bezogen, klingt daher kräftig und durchdringend. Die Mittenwalder Zither mit doppelter Ausbuchtung hat zumindest die Begleitsaiten aus Darm. Das Begünstigt das Zusammenspiel im Ensemble. So wird die eine beim Tanz im Freien, die andere zum häuslichen Musizieren benützt. Durch das Interesse des Herzogs Max von Bayern wurde die Zither zum Konzertinstrument. Ihr Repertoire wurde durch Arrangements von Opern oder Orchesterstücken erweitert, und es entstand eine eigene Literatur. Die Untersatzzither wird nicht angezupft. Sie verstärkt mit ihren Resonanzsaiten nur den Klang der auf ihr stehenden Diskantzither.English: ;European Zithers
The zither evolved around 1800 from the The Salzburg zither is completely string with metal strings, giving it a more powerful and penetrating tone. The Mittenwald zither has accompaniment strings made of gut. This type of stringing makes it ideal for use in ensembles. The former is often used for dances outdoors, while the other is used for house music. Thanks to the interest of Duke Max of Bavaria, the zither advanced to a concert instrument. Its repertoire was expanded to include arrangements of operas and orchestra pieces, and music was written for the zither itself. The sub-bass zither is not plucked. With its accompaniment strings it only amplifies the sound of the treble zither standing on it. |
