Description
English: Golden Gate Bridge south approach sub-structure after the Seismic Retrofit Construction Project was completed in 2008. The structure was retrofitted with seismic isolators to reduce the severity of shaking transmitted up into the structure and make the vibrations slower and less jerky.The isolator is made of layers of steel and rubber bonded together as shown in the sample. The retrofitting project was the result of the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake
