| Description |
This F-16 was in use as a radar target on a tower, and was raised / lowered when required. This detail shot shows the mounting point for the tower. It is a composite built from two crashed airframes, and has a huge mounting under the rear fuselage which is where it attached to the tower. Most of the airframe is from F-16C 84-1228, c/n 5C-65, which was written off on 5th January 1989 after suffering multiple birdstrikes on take-off at Shaw AFB. The rear comes from F-16B 78-0105, c/n 62-31, which crashed in the Gulf of Mexico on 27th March 1981 after a fuel pump failure. Neither of the above accidents were fatal.
