English: Combined desk and document case, made of wood and covered with leather which belonged to Sir Frederick Whitaker (1812-1891), Premier of N.Z. It is enclosed in a leather case lined with fleece and was used on the long journeys which travellers had to make before the days of rapid transit. brown leather outer case with white fleece lining with wooden internal case and draw covered in blue-black leather; wooden case has brass hinges and latch; also part (base) of brass handle arranged on rear side; leather case has a leather handle on rear side attached by metal brackets and two buckles with leather straps on front side. marked on lid of leather suitcase- F. WHITAKER remnants of luggage labels- '0NEHU(nga) - UU828 - NZR |
