[edit]DescriptionDesalinization plant at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.jpg |
Description: Seabees contructed this desalinization plant at Guantanamo Bay,Cuba after the Cuban Missile Crisis when Cuba cut off water to the base. Seabees were deployed on the scene in 1962 when, following the successful conclusion of the Cuban Missile Crisis, it was felt that Fidel Castro's regime might retaliate against the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Under the constant threat of imminent ground attack or sniper fire, Seabees worked with speed and skill to fortify the base perimeter. The main objective of Seabee construction at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was to make the base completely self- reliant. Until this point, the base had been obtaining its water from the main line coming from Cuba. Date: 1964 Creator/Photographer: US Navy Rights Info: No known restrictions on publication.
