[edit]DescriptionDerg Lodge, Slieve Doo (geograph 3962792).jpg |
English: Derg Lodge, Slieve Doo In the mid 1800s it was a shooting box for Sir Robert Ferguson Bart and later was owned by Tyrone County Education Committee and used as an outdoor pursuits centre. There is a bust of Sir Robert Ferguson to be seen on the wall in Gailey's yard off Main Street, Castlederg H2684 : Sir Robert Ferguson bust, Castlederg. It was located here about 1970 before being destroyed in a bomb attack a few years after this My Vauxhall 101 car can be seen behind the fence. It was sore on the springs at the time as the road was a rough untarred lane. I was at the site in connection with survey work and thought it great to be able to be away from the office and spend time on site. We brought our lunches with us and spent a couple of weeks on the job. One of my colleagues brought the frying pan every day and was fond of bacon and sausages which was the start of a life stile, not to his advantage in later life. The building over-looked a small lough H0779 : Loughahull or Limestone Lough. |
