| Description |
English: Derelict buildings in Twemlows Big Wood. There are many derelict buildings near the A41 in Twemlows Big Wood. These concrete-faced brick buildings with corrugated iron roofs form part of a compound by the A41, around 100 metres north of the track to The Twemlows. The area had several military uses over the 20th century, but the buildings were probably accommodation associated with the use of Prees Common as an airfield during the Second World War. The near (left) building is one of the best preserved. See 792898 for another view and 792901 for a wider view of the south-western edge of the compound; 793045 gives an internal view of a similar building. A separate group of Nissen huts is located near the northern edge of the wood in this gridsquare; see, for example, 792991. |
