[edit]DescriptionDennisArms EightQuarters Dodd'sFarm Pucklechurch.png |
English: Arms of Dennis of Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire, sculpted escutcheon of eight quarters above front door of Dodd's Farm, Pucklechurch, former dower house of Siston Court, seat of the Dennis family. See full view Since 1906 re-named Dennisworth Farm. The Dennis family of Pucklechurch was a junior branch of the Denys/Dennis family of adjacent Siston. Quarterings as The first seven quarters are as stated in Maclean, Sir John & Heane, W.C., (Eds.), The Visitation of the County of Gloucester Taken in the Year 1623 by Henry Chitty and John Phillipot as Deputies to William Camden Clarenceux King of Arms, etc, London, 1885, p.49 (with blazons corrected). The 8th quarter added (which replaced a repeat of quarter 1) is for Still (Sable gouttée d'eau argent, three roses of the last seeded or barbed vert), being the arms of Nathaniel Still (son of John Still (c.1543-1607/8), Bishop of Bath and Wells), whose daughter and co-heiress Mary Still was the wife of John Dennis (1616-1660) of Pucklechurch, as is recorded on a mural monument of the family in Pucklechurch Church, also showing the arms of Still (see . These arms quartering Still are thus those of Mary Still's eldest son William Dennis (1644-1701) of Pucklechurch (whose mural monument is in Pucklechurch Church), Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1689, who married Dorothy Cotton, a daughter of Sir John Cotton, 3rd Baronet (1621-1702), of Conington in the County of Huntingdon.
