Description |
English: A complete, Roman, Struck or hammered, silver alloy, Denarius of Septimus Severus. Obverse: Laureate, draped bust of Septimus Severus with beard right. Inscription: (SEVERVS PIVS AVG). Reverse: Probably Roma standing left holding Victory and resting on shield and spear against left arm. Inscription: VIRT(AVGG). Die axis: 12 o'clock. The coin in fair, very worn condition. It has a slightly tarnished surface with a patch of green verdigris on the obverse and the reverse is struck a little off centre. This coin is likely to date to 193-211AD. Ref. Coins of England and the UK, Spink 2011, page 54 No. 211 and Roman Imperial Coinage Vol. IV No. 171(a). The coin is 18.0mm long, 17.5mm wide, diameter 18.0mm. (we don't have thickness or weight). |
