Summary

[edit]
Description

A row of Lockheed L-1011-500s, seen at Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville. Three of them still show at least portions of the Delta Air Lines' Widget livery.

Delta was one of the most important operators of the L-1011. The shortened, long-range -500 variant allowed Delta to launch services to Asia and Europe. Many of them had been acquired second-hand from other airlines; five -500s, for example, were Pan Am aircraft that had been transferred to United along with Pan Am's Pacific network in 1986, and sent to Delta in 1988 in exchange for Delta's ex-Western DC-10 fleet joining United. Delta retired its last L-1011 in 2001.

It is unlikely that they will ever fly again. And with only eight L-1011s still in active service worldwide, their value as spare parts sources would be questionable as well.
