| Description |
A wonderful place to visit... Run by a charitable trust, the castle had a real charm. It felt like a well-loved home, and not a preserved-in-aspic showpiece like so many country houses. Not that showpieces are automatically a bad thing, but it's refreshing to have a bit of contrast! Interestingly, this castle contains an enormous turnpike stair with five-foot wide tread, but not within an explicit stair tower - it's completely contained within the L-shaped plan. <a href="http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/19251/details/delgatie+castle/">RCAHMS</a> have some good images of Ian G Lindsay plans from 1949 (even if they are a bit too small...) It occurs to me that this photograph reminds me of teenagers with asymmetrical hairstyles covering most of their face. If you get what I mean... |
