Vue panoramique sur le village et la nécropole des artisans de la Set Maât Les habitants de ce village appartenaient à une institution : La Tombe. Ils étaient des artisans et des artistes chargés de creuser et de décorer les tombeaux royaux (Pharaons, Epouses et Princes). Ils oeuvrèrent durant tout le Nouvel Empire (1500-1050 av. J.C.). Plusieurs tombes d'artisans ont été découvertes à proximité du site. Gaston Maspéro puis Ernesto Schiaparelli (musée de Turin) ont été les premiers fouilleurs, puis Bernard Bruyère de l'IFAO a obtenu l'autorisation de fouille (1922-1951). L'état actuel du site est celui du village à l'époque ramesside (XIIIème siècle av. J.C.). Il occupait près de 5.600 m2, entouré d'un mur d'enceinte. Il regroupait 68 maisons qui abritèrent 40 à 120 foyers. Chaque maison avait une surface de 72 à 120 m2. Les murs étaient en pierres grossières pour les parties basses, en briques crues pour les parties hautes, ils étaient recouverts d'un mélange de terre et de paille.
