English: Air Department personnel examine every square foot of flight deck for loose material as they perform a Foreign Object Damage walk down prior to flight operations aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) on March 24, 2005. Commonly called a FOD walk down, this task is performed each day and night before flight operations to ensure the flight deck is clear of all foreign objects, which could be ingested by jet aircraft or place flight deck personnel in danger. The Bataan is underway in the Atlantic Ocean conducting training for an upcoming deployment. |
