Levitow to his grave in Arlington National Cemetery where he will be buried with full military honors on Nov. 17, 2000. Levitow earned the medal as an airman 1st class serving as loadmaster aboard a severely damaged AC-47 gunship flying a mission over Long Binh, South Vietnam, on Feb. 24, 1969. A C-17 Globemaster III was named "The Spirit of John L. Levitow," in his honor Jan. 23, 1998. Levitow died at his home in Connecticut on Nov. 8, 2000, after a lengthy battle with cancer. |
