| Description |
English: Decorated tree beside the road at Chygarkye Wood Such trees are known locally as 'cloutie trees', which are decorated with strips of fabric, etc as a white witchcraft cure for ailments - as the fabric rots, so the condition is cured. These trees are usually associated with a holy well or similar. This one seems to be somewhat different - although adjacent to a stream, there is no holy well present and the strips of fabric are of a uniform type and age, rather than being in varying stages of decay - all a bit of a mystery. |
