Title
Decorated lead spindle whorl
Description
English: Spindle whorl; Cast lead spindle whorl decorated on both sides with a linear & dotted design in relief. The spindle whorl is circular with a broad, circular hole through the centre. It tapers towards the edges, giving a double-convex cross section. The lead has a thin, white patina over some areas, especially within the relief decoration.

Diameter 29.86mm, thickness 11.85mm, weight 38.35g

Spindle whorls are very difficult to date accurately since the basic design remained unchanged and in use for many centuries, from the Roman period through to early Post Medieval times.
