English: Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Ben Ray Luján (NM-03) and Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) visited World Central Kitchen’s “Chefs for Feds” location in Washington, D.C. to serve food to federal employees in need as a result of the Trump Shutdown. The effort, spearheaded by Chef José Andrés, is opening locations across the country to ensure that the 800,000 workers going without pay during the shutdown get hot meals.
“I commend Chef Andrés for his leadership and commitment to serving those in need,” said Congressman Luján (NM-03). “The fact that government workers are lining up around the block for a hot meal and having to make calculations around a second missed paycheck is unacceptable. New Mexicans and Americans across the country know how to care for our neighbors. It's time for President Trump to do the same.” “What Jose Andres is doing to help those in need is part of who we are as Americans – we help each other out, we lift each other up, and I am pleased we were able to lend a hand,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01). “After voting for the 11th time to open the government, it was important to get on the ground and let people know that we see them, and we’re here to help.” |
