Description |
English: Lewis and Wiley were the hydraulic contractors. Caption on image: Lewis and Wiley, Inc. Dearborn St. regrade dist. 17th Ave. So. and Dearborn looking [?] Sept. 12, 1909. #25 16270
17th Ave S in this area is now Hiawatha Place S. If the description of the location is anything like accurate, the only way this can be oriented is that we are looking west on Dearborn from 17th (Hiawatha); a block a block in front of the camera, Dearborn T-junctions into Rainier Ave. S, and the industrial building is part of the brickyard that can be seen at this location on the 1905 Baist map (Plate 10), and which is still there as Hill Brick Works in the 1912 Baist map, but by then has ceded a lot of the land around its edges to other uses. |
