| Description | The stench of rotting animal carcasses was overpowering, and we were happy to finally get away from it. I was pitying the guards who have to work in the vicinity. The relief from the stench was not for long. We had to cross the Masai River itself on a low bridge. This is where the stench hit again! On the banks of the river were scores of animal carcasses, or what remained of them. They had probably been dragged here by crocodiles and hyenas. Birds like the vulture and Maribou Storks were feasting on them. Pictures in the Kenya Birds set. (Oct/ Nov 2010) |
