Het is wel de moeite waard, na te gaan, hoe de echt-Indonesische samenstelling van ruit methaakkruis-figuren eerst vereenvoudigd, en later met neiging tot afronding van lijnen, nage-bootst werd, hoe uit het typische ruitmotief met de meander of haakkruis-achtige uitloopers welde hoofdfiguur is overgebleven, waarvan echter de sierlijke bij-motieven tot karbouwenhoorn-lijnen overgegaan zijn. En toen eenmaal deze overgang plaats had gehad, het verbogen motiefbij de Toradjas populair was geworden, werd het niet alleen aan ruiten, maar ook aan kruisen,aan cirkels, aan vierkanten, aan lijnen en onregelmatige vlakken geschakeld.Ook de hagedisfiguur komt zoowel op de Toradjasche als de Ceramsche boomschors-doekenvoor, de hagedisfiguur, die, wat de houding betreft, waarin het beest is weergegeven, verdui-delijkt, hoe het motief uit ruiten en vereenvoudigde haakkruisen moet zijn ontstaan I1).Meer en meer g
