Het uitsparingsprocédé door op den blauw te verven doek stukjes bamboe te naaien, komt niet alleen bijde Karo-Bataks voor, maar ook bij de Keos, die het binnenland van Mangarai en West-Flores bewonen. In zijnReizen naar Mangarai en Lombok (Tijdschrift van Indische Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde, deel IX) schrijft deheer Freyss: „Zij (de Keos) hebben blauwe slendangs met witte figuren, zooals uitsluitend door hen ver-vaardigd worden. Voordat het doek door hen blauwgeverfd wordt, naaien zij er figuren van bamboe op; na deverving nemen zij de bamboe er af, waardoor er witte figuren in overblijven, alsof die er in gedrukt waren.84
