[edit]DescriptionDe Havilland Vampire 14 Sqn RNZAF Malta 1954.jpeg | Australian and New Zealand servicing crew work on a de Havilland DH.100 Vampire FB.52 fighter aircraft that has landed after a sortie to get it ready for another mission at the Ta Kali base in Malta. They were taking part in the NATO exercise "Shield One", in which 78 Fighter Wing RAAF and 14 Squadron RNZAF defended Rome against intruders from the US 6th Fleet and RAF bombers. The Wing was involved in several such exercises while stationed in Malta for garrison duty between 1952 and 1954. | ||
