Summary

[edit]
Description

The bomb aimer's position in the de Havilland Mosquito TT35 at the RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, 8 July 2020. It was converted to a target tug from a B 35 bomber and has been restored to represent a B35.

The ‘wooden wonder’ was without doubt the greatest multi-role aircraft of WWII but it originated as a ‘private venture’ by de Havilland which, despite its highly unconventional design as an unarmed bomber made of wood, showed such exceptional performance (and manoeuvrability) that it was ordered by the RAF.

It was produced in photo reconnaissance, day and night bomber, pathfinder, intruder, fighter bomber, day fighter, night fighter (both as interceptor and escort fighter), carrier-borne torpedo bomber anti-shipping and anti-U boat strike fighter, trainer and high speed target tug variants, the last version serving as late as 1963.
