Summary

[edit]
Description

Built in April 1945 but immediately went in to store until May 1952 when she went to Brooklands Aviation at Sywell for conversion to a TT.35 target tug. After two years operational towing, she went back in to store in December 1954. In September 1959 she was delivered to No.3 Civilian Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit (CAACU) based at Exeter where she remained on strength until May 1963. She then moved to the Central Flying School at Little Rissington for use as a display aircraft. The target towing equipment was removed and she was repainted in camouflage. During 1963 she took part in filming ‘633 Squadron’ wearing the serial ‘HJ682’ and coded ‘HT-B’. She continued to make occasional display flights until October 1965, when she was grounded and stored. She came to Cosford in 1969 and has remained here since. In 1988 she was painted to represent Mosquito XX ‘AZ-E’ of 627 sqn, in which Wing Commander Guy Gibson was killed on 20th September 1944. She is on display in the ‘War in the Air’ hangar. RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
