Deutsch: Rufinus von Aquileja (ca. 345-412) übersetzte die Kirchengeschichte des Eusebius von Caesarea ins Lateinische und setzte sie fort. Theodor Mommsen edierte diese Fortsetzung ab ca. 1900 für die Kirchenväterkommission der preußischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, deren Chef Adolf von Harnack war. Ein "Abfallprodukt" und ein Zeugnis der Freundschaft, die durch die Zusammenarbeit zwischen den beiden großen Gelehrten entstand, ist die launige Nachdichtung einer von Rufinus kolportierten Episode über Gregor Thaumaturgos, enthalten in einem Brief Mommsens an Harnack. |
