| Description |
Nederlands: De 89-jarige oud-commando Herman Gobetz heeft gisteren met terugwerkende kracht 7 onderscheidingen ontvangen. Hij kreeg ze voor krijgsverrichtingen tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Commandant van het Korps Commandotroepen kolonel Jan Swillens reisde persoonlijk naar Zuid-Afrika om hem de versierselen op te spelden. De uitreiking vond plaats op Fort Klapperkop in Pretoria bij het nationaal monument van de South African National Defence Force, een beeld van een krijger die met zijn persoonlijk wapen ten strijde trekt. Swillens: “Zo’n krijger was Herman Gobetz in 1942 ook. Ik heb hem gisteravond gesproken en hij vertelde zijn verhaal met rappe tong en scherpe geest. Een opmerking wil ik u niet onthouden: "Ik was getraind als een commando, dat heeft me op de been gehouden." |
