Summary
[edit]DescriptionDayton Street, West End, Cincinnati, OH (28226811908).jpg | The eastern portion of Dayton Street, located between Linn Street and Central Avenue in Cincinnati’s West End, is just as interesting as the more famous and affluent western portion, but has middle and working-class dwellings rather than the upper-class townhouses of the other end of the Street, and has an odd jog in the street’s alignment at Whiteman Street, a once-common feature of many streets that has vanished in many parts of the city. Constructed in the 19th Century, the buildings along this portion of Dayton Street were built in the Italianate, Greek Revival, and Second Empire styles, and include many duplexes and rowhouses alongside townhouses, which makes the renovation and redevelopment of these properties much more accessible to the working class and middle class, whereas the other part of the Street is lined with larger homes that are challenging and require far more resources to restore. Though less vibrant and less iconic than the other part of the Street, the eastern portion of Dayton Street is still a charming area, with many lovely residential structures lining the street in a manner similar to what is seen further west. |
