Summary
[edit]DescriptionDay 35 - Community Payback.jpg |
English: On this day in 1884 Mr Robert Bryant was sentenced to 3 months hard labour for stealing a till at Bishopgate Street.
The courts can’t hand out hard labour as a punishment now but they can deal out Community Payback, which is demanding work carried out by offenders in the community. Offenders wear bright orange jackets marked ‘Community Payback’ so people can see them paying back for their offences. Projects can range from litter removal to clearing dense undergrowth and from repairing and redecorating community centres to removing graffiti. This photo shows offenders clearing a overgrown woodland park area off Highgate Drive, Walsall, where youths had been causing anti social behaviour. |
