Description

Nature Discovery

"From under 5s to grandparents, there's lots to keep all the family entertained at the Museum." Visitors of all ages, and from all backgrounds visit the Manchester Museum every day. The museum aims to engage all visitors at a level appropriate to themselves.

The 'Nature Discovery' gallery is designed with young explorers in mind.

Visitors are invited to step inside a magical world where younger children and their families can explore nature, from the depths of the sea to the inside of a giant tree.

Aimed at 4-7 year olds, 'Nature Discovery' can be used to explore the museum's other galleries and the natural world outside. Visitors are invited to look closely, compare things, sort things and try to name them.

There is a signpost in the middle of the gallery with ideas and suggestions to help families to discover nature together.

This is 'Flowermeadow' where young explorers are invited to 'move like an insect between the colourful models of plants and flowers.'

Visitors can also discover Owlwood - where you can imagine yourself going inside a giant tree and see the birds, mammals and insects that live in the woods and count the rings on a tree that lived for over a thousand years.

And explore Oceandeep - where you can see the amazing animals that live deep beneath the sea - strange fish, giant sponges and beautiful shells.

This gallery is just one of the access points for young explorers. The Museum offers a wide variety of learning programmes from early years to post-16 and beyond.
