[edit]DescriptionDay 184 - West Midlands Police - Three-year-old boy rescues mum with 999 call (9199515169).jpg |
A THREE-year-old boy has been praised by police after he called 999 for help when his mum had an accident in their Coventry home. Brave Taylor Price, from Foleshill in Coventry, called the emergency services when his mother fell down the stairs in their home and lay unconscious in the hallway. Unable to wake his mum, 21-year-old Chloe Price, quick-thinking Taylor raised the alarm by finding her mobile phone and calmly dialling for help. In a recording of the 999 call, available to listen to here, a West Midlands Police contact centre officer can be heard to ask "what’s the matter?" to which Taylor replies "my Mummy has hurt herself." He can then be heard calling out to Ms Price before the call cuts out. Operators tried to return the call but were unable to get an answer. It’s at that stage that West Midlands Police emergency operators set about quickly tracing the call so they could find Taylor’s location and send much needed help. Response officer PC Claudette Jordan and her colleague PC Sarah Wheatcroft were the first officers to get to the address. PC Jordan said: "We couldn’t believe it when the paramedics told us that Taylor had found the front door keys and unlocked the door to let them in. He was so calm and composed; he’s such an absolute credit to his mum and family." Coventry police officers were so proud of Taylor that they invited him to their police station to spend the afternoon as an honorary officer − PC Price. As a VIP guest to the station he had a tour, was presented with his own police hat, sat in a police car and received a special surprise visit from a litter of five police pups. Thankfully Ms Price, who tripped and fell from the top to the bottom of the stairs during the accident, has recovered well and couldn’t be more proud of her little boy. Talking during her visit to the station with Taylor and his grandparents, she said: "I don’t know what I’d have done without him, he was so brave. Only a few weeks ago his granddad had taught him how to call 999 if there was ever an emergency. "The ambulance crew told me that Taylor had even tried to feed me some marmite and toast, which I’d just made him for his breakfast, to try and get me to wake up! He turns four this month and I don’t know many children his age who’d know what to do to get help. I can’t explain just how proud we are of him." Courageous Taylor was presented with a special certificate during his visit to Coventry Central police station yesterday. Presenting the award, Chief Superintendent Andy Nicholson, said: "We wanted Taylor to get the recognition he deserves. This visit was a way for us to personally say a special well done for his commendable actions. "He’s a testament to his family and a shining example to other youngsters of what to do in an emergency. We were all honoured to meet him yesterday and he’s welcome to come back and visit us at any time." |
