Description
English: Painted by David Cameron in 1919. In this painting, smoke blankets the plains of Flanders in Belgium, and rises from the distant village. In the foreground, the blasted trees represent the unseen human cost. David Cameron became an official Canadian War Memorials Fund artist in 1917. A renowned Scottish landscape artist, he worked from notes and sketches made over time at the front. He combined many weeks of observation into this work.
