Image title | David Renard soutient sa thèse de mathématiques à l’Université de Poitiers en 1996.
Il réalise ensuite un séjour postdoctoral au MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) de Cambridge, puis à l’IAS (Institute for Advanced Study) de Princeton aux Etats-Unis. David Renard obtient son habilitation à diriger des recherches en 2000 et rejoint l’Ecole polytechnique en 2003. Il devient professeur associé au Centre de Mathématiques Laurent Schwartz (CMLS, École polytechnique / CNRS) en 2011. David Renard s’intéresse à la théorie des groupes, à leurs représentations et à l’analyse harmonique invariante sur ceux-ci. La théorie des représentations cherche à rendre plus concrets et plus accessibles au calcul des objets algébriques abstraits, en les représentant sous la forme de matrices. Cette théorie trouve des applications en analyse, en géométrie et en algèbre. Elle est omniprésente en mathématiques comme en physique théorique. Les travaux de David Renard s’insèrent dans le cadre d’un vaste programme de recherche associant arithmétique et théorie des représentations, le « programme Langlands », du nom du mathématicien qui en a eu la vision à la fin des années 1960. |
