Português: Data do lintel da porta do logradouro da antiga Taverna Real. Cantaria mole regional e aparente do Cabo Girão. Prédio muito complexo, com fachada de 1600 e seguintes, mas talvez somente no andar térreo, pois que os pisos superiores são já dos séculos seguintes, mas interior que o antigo proprietário, César Figueira César (1909-c. 1995), o Guiné, insistia ser quinhentista. António Manuel de Sousa Aragão Mendes Correia (São Vicente, ilha da Madeira, 21 set. 1921; Funchal, 11 ago. 2008). Filho de Henrique Agostinho Aragão Mendes Correia e de Maria José de Sousa, frequentou o Liceu Jaime Moniz, a Escola Superior de Belas Artes e licenciou-se em Ciências Históricas-Filosóficas pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, tendo, em 1960, estagiado como bibliotecário em Itália, onde frequentou então ateliers de restauro. Em 1946, António Aragão ganhara o 2º prémio dos Jogos Florais da Madeira com o poema: “Presentemente“, tendo então integrado com outros autores, o grupo de poesia experimental português, tendo a partir da década de 60 também se dedicado à pintura. Desde 1972 e até à década de 80 foi diretor do Arquivo Regional da Madeira, anteriormente designado Arquivo Distrital do Funchal, fazendo também parte da comissão diretiva do Museu da Quinta das Cruzes e sido professor da cadeira de História da Arte na Academia de Música e Belas-Artes da Madeira. Deixou interessante obra pública escultórica na Madeira e no Porto Santo, ilustrou a obra Canhenhos da Ilha, de Horácio Bento Gouveia (1901-1983), 1966 e deixou ainda obra historiográfica, com especial referência para o Funchal. |
