[edit]DescriptionDarul-Uloom Al-Madania School - fmr Holy Mother of the Rosary School - Buffalo, New York - 20200623.jpg |
English: Darul-Uloom Al-Madania School, 150 Sobieski Street, Buffalo, New York, June 2020. A relatively simple iteration of the Romanesque Revival style favored by architect John H. Coxhead, the most striking element of the design is the unusual parapet crowning the center of the façade, where a pair of stout brick pilasters flank an oculus window (now bricked over) which in turn crowns a pair of narrow round-arched windows, all framed by stone trim bedecked with stylized ancones. The building served for many years as the parochial school associated with the Holy Mother of the Rosary Polish National Cathedral; the second floor was home to the "New Sobieski Hall" auditorium and performance space. The building has since 1993 been home to Darul-Uloom Al-Madania School, an Islamic seminary. |
